NFM
Synthetic Rubber Finishing
NFM/Welding Engineers'
dewatering *(SDU) and drying extruders *(VCU) offer
closed system performance to the rubber industry.
The closed system design means minimum off specification
material is generated, housekeeping and maintenance
are reduced and emissions can easily be lowered.
Our equipment (dewatering extruder (SDU), drying
extruder (VCU) *Turbulator, and temperature control
unit) and our more than 45 years of experience represent
an optimum answer to the toughest synthetic rubber
finishing requirements.
Better Product Quality
Through a Better Process
- Low
Product Temperature/Efficient Drying:
The NFM/Welding
Engineers finishing system provides advantages
in product temperature due to highly
efficient drying effect of our Turbulator.
The Turbulator cuts the rubber at high
speed in a high velocity stream of air,
which aids in liberating the moisture
from the rubber. The amount of work done
on the polymer is adjustable on-line
via an adjustable die pressure device.
Only required work is put into the rubber,
and all of that work is effectively used
to evaporate water. The result is a highly
energy efficient process with minimum
product temperature.
- Safer,
Cleaner Handling:
The turbulator
cuts rubber crumb and airveys it to a
temperature control unit in a closed
tube. The airveying technique allows
easy transport of the crumb between the
extruder and the apron dryer.
The airveying technique is also resistant
to the accumulation of fines resulting
from all surfaces being exposed to the
high velocity air. This effect makes
it possible to airvey material directly
from the Turbulator for distances of
as much as 75 meters to a temperature
control unit or apron dryer without contamination
problems.
- Fully
Closed Systems:
All waste
streams are fully contained, insuring
that the polymer fed to the machine is
extruded. This avoids off specification
material being generated, which can be
a problem with conventional systems.
An additional advantage of the dewatering
drying system (SDU) is its ability to
accept slurry direct from the slurry
tank and eliminate the traditional shaker
screens.
If rubber crumb sticking or accumulation
problems are present, it is usually at
the discharge of the dryer. The high
velocity of the air in the Turbulator
prevents these problems. The water and
volatiles removed in the mechanical dryer
can be separated from the rubber crumb
in a cyclone. The key point is that all
trace organic volatiles are contained
until the final drying stage so that
they can be treated. Open dewatering
(SDU)/drying systems (VCU) will emit
trace organic volatiles directly into
the atmosphere.
