: Counter Rotating Non-Intermeshing
Twin Screw Extruder : Overview
The counter-rotating,
non-intermeshing system designed by Welding
Engineers enhances feed acceptance, provides
superior distributive mixing, enables multistage
feeding, and produces optimum venting.
Screw diameters range from .80 to 10.00
inches.
PROPRIETARY PROCESS EXPERTISE
- Devolatilization
of Polymer Solutions:
In the field of polymer devolatilization,
NFM/Welding Engineers holds an impressive
array of
experience and accomplishments
that include:
- patented
multi-stage venting
- rear
venting
- counter-current
and co-current stripping
New products
include:
- streamlined
preconcentration systems
that maximize output
and quality of solution
polymers.
- large-scale
processing techniques
for extrusion drying
of elastomer solutions.
- Reactive
Processing:
NFM/Welding Engineers has been building
equipment for the finishing and primary
manufacture of emulsion, bulk, and
solution polymers ever since polymer
manufacturers began using twin screw
devices for such purposes. Over time,
we have developed the technology to
handle the large amounts of solvent,
water, or vapor that comes out of the
reactor with the polymer. We are the
only equipment manufacturer with the
technology to finish polymers commercially
from emulsion, solution or slurry in
a single machine.
It was a natural extension of our expertise
in handling reactor products to perform
the reactions themselves in our extruders.
For reactions to proceed to completion
in a controlled manner requires certain
residence time, heat transfer, and
mass transfer characteristics. NFM/Welding
Engineers' extruders offer optimum
conditions in all three areas and our
technical team can provide ready solutions
to limitations in reactive extrusion
process development.
- Isolation
of Emulsion Polymers:
With over 20 years of experience in
direct latex extrusion (emulsion conversion)
processes, NFM/Welding Engineers is
uniquely qualified and fully equipped
to help you achieve superior product
results, optimize operations, and reduce
expenses. Our counter-rotating, non-intermeshing
twin screw extruders have been proven
to be ideal process machines for latex
coagulation applications.

Coagulation Thermoplastics
- Latex
Coagulation Elastomers
- Synthetic
Rubber Finishing Equipment:
NFM/Welding Engineers' dewatering *(SDU)
and drying extruders (VCU) offer closed
system performance to the rubber industry.
The closed system design means minimum
off specification material is generated,
housekeeping and maintenance are reduced
and emissions can easily be lowered.
Our equipment (dewatering extruder
(SDU), drying extruder (VCU) Turbulator,
and temperature control unit) and our
more than 45 years of experience represent
an optimum answer to the toughest synthetic
rubber finishing requirements.
- Hot
Melt Adhesive Compounding Extruder:
Continuous twin-screw mixing
enhances the quality of hot melt pressure-sensitive
adhesives.
As environmental regulations continue
to mount, more and more pressure-sensitive
adhesive users are switching from solvent
based to hot melt systems. By making
this change, many are finding they
can compound their own materials, offering
them significant cost savings.
In fact, it is possible to save up
to 1/3 the cost of the adhesive by
compounding on a NFM/Welding Engineers'
Twin Screw Extruder.
This savings is achieved through the
twin screw mixing process, which offers
a higher melt quality and process control
than can be achieved in a single screw
process.
