WE : Counter Rotating Non-Intermeshing Twin Screw Extruder : Plastics Recycling
Even though the plastics recycling market is relatively new, NFM/Welding Engineers has a half century of experience in the reprocessing of plastics, including contaminated, mixed materials. As a leading manufacturer of non-intermeshing twin screw extruders and continuous melt filtration systems, we are uniquely qualified to support your recycling efforts and add value to post-consumer plastics and rubber. We have ongoing developmental programs with government and university groups, which can provide numerous resources toward developing an optimized turn-key system.

Advantages to
Processors & Recovery Facilities

Flexibility in Processing: NFM/Welding Engineers can tailor a recycling system to
precisely meet your needs.

Available equipment includes:
• twin screw compounding extruders
• one and two feed opening models
• featuring an odor and moisture removal vacuum vent stage
• crammer feeders for low bulk density feeds
• Kleen Screen melt filters for mildly contaminated
plastics (particle size less than 1 mm)
• other filtering devices, such as slidegates and
intermittent back washing purgers for more contaminated plastics
• auxiliary equipment, such as solid and liquid
feeders, vacuum pumps, and pelletizers.

Additional flexibility is made possible by:
• modular screws and barrels
• variations in screw design and operating conditions that provide wide latitude in high and low shear capabilities
• the use of stripping agents for odor removal and mixing of compatibilizing agents
• the integration of sequential feeds and vents. An NFM/WE twin screw extruder allows you to combine several process steps in a single machine.

Benefits of an NFM/WE Twin Screw Extruder:
Our machines are designed for peak performance. They can handle up to 5% moisture without special
designs. Long L/D ratios permit multistage additions. Excellent feed acceptance is made possible by wide
openings and downward screw motion. Counter-rotating, non-intermeshing screw design promotes mixing and
blending without excessive shear. A broad range of feed and vent types are available. An equally important aspect of NFM/WE’s non-intermeshing screw design is its trouble-free operation. Wear is reduced because rubbing surfaces are minimized. In addition, the twin screw design allows small solid contaminants to pass through without damaging the machine.
